Fourth graders explored the culture and history of Australia through the “Dreaming”. After being exposed to several types of Australian art including x-ray painting, bark paintings and Papuyna Dot paintings; students began their own dot painting designs using traditional symbols and native animals. Students had the option of using their painting to tell a story or just to create a design. Many if them chose to create a story and could tell you the meaning behind their design. These designs were drawn on black paper. Aboriginal artists applied paint for their dot paintings using paint created from earth and tree elements. Our artists added color using oil pastels.
